The Defence R&D Canada – Suffield (DRDC Suffield) has a tradition of over 50 years of significant scientific achievement in the field of defence R & D in both Canada and abroad. DRDC Suffield activities have constituted a significant portion of DND's contribution to the federal S&T policy on knowledge and wealth generation, particularly in terms of the significant benefits flowing to Canadian industry from DRDC Suffield investment in R&D.
The decline in the Defence budget has forced DRDC Suffield to closely examine and change the way it has traditionally done business in the past. As a result, DRDC Suffield has taken a decisive step forward in collaboration with the private sector, universities, other government departments and our allies by employing a broader array of collaborative options to maximize these benefits to the Department, Canadian industry and ultimately the Canadian public. Collaborative projects of interest to DRDC Suffield are being developed in a strategic way, integrating expertise and technologies with other DRDC centres and with external knowledge to deliver maximum benefits.
The vision of providing superior R & D expertise and technologies to our traditional DND client has not changed, but DRDC Suffield is now looking for new and innovative ways to lever its annual appropriations by employing collaborative efforts that can benefit each participant whether in the private or public sector.
